Employment Opportunity: Housing and Homelessness Program Coordinator
Location: Halifax, NS
Salary Range:  $65,000.00 - 75,000 (based on skills/experience)
Employment Term: April 2026 to March 31st, 2027 (possibility of renewal) Full time hours (35 hours/ week)
Reports To: Executive Director
 
Position Summary
Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for One (1) The Housing & Homelessness Program Coordinator. This role will provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for MNFC’s Indigenous Housing Program. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role ensures high-quality, culturally grounded housing supports for Indigenous individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The position is responsible for three primary areas: team leadership, funding and financial management, and overall program oversight. The Manager ensures services are delivered with accountability, cultural integrity, and measurable impact.
 
Core Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership
·        Lead, supervise, and support a multidisciplinary housing team.
·        Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
·        Offer consultation and guidance on complex client cases.
·        Ensure staff have the resources and direction needed to effectively support clients.
·        Foster a collaborative, trauma-informed, and culturally safe team environment.
 
2. Financial & Funding Management
·        Oversee multiple funding agreements and ensure compliance with all funder requirements.
·        Develop, manage, and forecast annual program budgets.
·        Monitor monthly expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
·        Reconcile program spending to ensure full and accurate use of funds by fiscal year-end.
·        Prepare financial and outcome reports for funders.
·        Identify funding gaps and write grant proposals to secure additional resources.
 
3. Program Management & Operations
·        Provide overall operational oversight of the housing program.
·        Ensure appropriate management and reconciliation of all client-related and staff expenditures.
·        Develop and maintain program policies and procedures that prioritize dignity, confidentiality, and culturally safe practice.
·        Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of client outcomes.
·        Build and maintain relationships with landlords, housing providers, community partners, and government stakeholders.
 
Qualifications & Experience
·        Post-secondary education in social services, community development, public administration, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
·        Minimum three years of experience in housing, homelessness, or community-based social services.
·        Demonstrated experience leading and supervising staff.
·        Experience managing program budgets and multiple funding streams.
·        Strong understanding of Indigenous trauma-informed practice, Housing First, harm reduction, and systemic barriers to housing.
·        Knowledge of tenancy legislation, income assistance, and related housing systems.
 
Additional Requirements
·        Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
·        Successful completion of Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
